Patrick Stewart, 78, stunned Star Trek fans at a convention in Las Vegas on Saturday by taking the stage and announcing the secret to his youthful looks.

Whereas other actors and actresses from Star Trek TNG have not weathered the last 30 years well (not mentioning any names, Marina Sirtis), Patrick Stewart, who played the iconic Captain Jean-Luc Picard, has not actually changed appearance since he was 18 years old.

Whilst his character was partial to Earl Gray, fans were shocked to discover that his secret to unchanging looks was due to bathing in this peculiarly British delicacy twice a day.

The furor from fans was such that he issued a publich statement on his Twitter account:

“It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself looking exactly like I did when I played Jean-Luc Picard and how they’ll have to use to make-up so I as old as the rest of the cast. During these past years, it has been humbling to hear many stories about how my youthful looks inspred people to try various forms of plastic surgery in their lives to try and follow the youthful example of Jean-Luc.  It also inspired so many others pursue science to explore how they too could stay looking young.”

A downside of the treatment is the total and permanent loss of hair, but fans agree that it would be a small price to pay.

At the convention, he also mentioned that he’ll be reprising his role  as Jean-Luc Picard in a new CBS All Access series chronicling his life after TNG.
