Tumblr flags all its images as NSFW “just to be sure”
Yesterday Tumblr announced that it would flag all its content as NSFW and remove them “just to be sure” after its app was removed from the iOS Apple Store two weeks ago for child pornography.
Tumblr’s chief executive, Jeff D’Onofrio, commented, “We realised that our site really is a cesspit of filth and we need to wash our mouths out with soap.”
As an example, Jeff referred us to the following image (sensitive viewers should avert their eyes now).
“On the surface, this image looks harmless enough, but the subtlety of the sexual suggestion between the *ahem* shaped eels and the female dragon is the most clever part of it,” Jeff warned.
“It’s images like this that automated tools could miss, hence the best thing is to just flag everything and ban it.”
To show his commitment, Jeff immediately flagged his own statement:
The tumblr ban will take place on 17 December and has already caused much outcry among the population who are angered that “their friend” would be hurt by such a move.
