Disney Georgia boycott sees stocks plunge
Disney Georgia Boycott: Robert Iger, Disney CEO, said that it would be “difficult” to film in Georgia as “many people who work for us will not want to work there.”
Georgia’s heartbeat bill has caused a furious backlash in Hollywood. For example, Sophie Turner who played Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones signed a public pledge to no longer work in places with strict abortion. She claims that it was “pure coincidence” that this occurred right after she finished filming in Ireland which currently has strict abortion laws (though Irish equality in killing laws have been recently passed).
Given the media giant’s public support of abortion will directly reduce its future target market of children, financial analysts slashed Disney’s expected long-term growth prospects which saw its stock slide on the Dow-Jones.
What does the Disney Georgia boycott mean for its future investment?Â
Well Disney have instead recently opened a $5.5 billion resort in Shanghai, China which was a world leader on women’s reproductive rights through its enforced one-child policy. Though Disney is disappointed that this rule has been relaxed to two children it still is proud to work with them due to their superior human rights compared to Georgia.
